Your Best Life Awaits

Hey everybody! Wow, it’s been a minute. What have you been up to? What have you accomplished in the last year? Pick up any new skills? New house? Job? A new boo maybe? Anything that would add joy to your daily life, and thereby add years to your life???

Well, I got a new breakfast partner and somebody to watch cooking and design shows with me. He likes the Property Brothers a lot. His name is Zahir, and he’s almost four months old now. I gotta tell you, last year when I learned he was on the way, it changed some things. I’m actually somebody’s grandmother! The term “generational wealth” danced around in my head some days, and rang in my ears like a bell on others. I gotta make moves. This is not all there is for me.

I felt a little bit of pressure to kick my ideas into gear and actually DO something I had only been dreaming about. Now mind you, I’ve never been kicked up about starting something my kids would eventually take over–mostly because they don’t get it. I declare the millennials and post-millennials…I can’t with them. But if I start it, run it, and grow it, the youngest ones can still reap the rewards of my efforts. Then they can start their own thing, with an advantage. It’s simply up to me.

So a while back, I started thinking about exactly what my next phase will look like. I prayed for ideas on how to merge all my stuff into one cohesive, logical enterprise. I researched, read, inquired, networked, prayed some more, found a couple of workshops, investigated financing options, and just when I was about frustrated enough to pause, I prayed some more. A few days later, my girlfriend dropped a major breadcrumb in my lap. It all made sense right then. I signed up for this course. A couple of licenses and a permit are all that stand in my way now.

I know exactly what I’m gonna do. I’m 43 days shy of my 30-year work anniversary, and that means their time is up! I knew it ten years ago. I only stayed to make it to 30. And now it’s here. Phase two, beginning summer 2018. I’m excited. I’m afraid. I’m ready though. My turn! My best life awaits. I know the smell of lumber and tile and paint doesn’t sound like much fun, but who doesn’t love a butter, brown sugar and vanilla party? Yeah, I need all that in my life. They make me so freaking happy.

Anyway, I say all that to say it’s not too late to turn the page and pursue your joy. Don’t worry so much about how much or how little it pays when you’re dreaming. Use that energy to plan– determine exactly what it will require of you to put the plan in motion. Compensate for shortfall, get creative about ways to make that money back. I said it before: Bottle that $#!+ up and sell it. You have the talent, and today you have the time. What can you do to live your best life, while supporting yourself, beginning today? Think about it. Pray about it. Like you mean it.

You have it in you to be happy, satisfied and to live a purpose-filled life. God is real, and he’s been so very good to me. I sit in my favorite spot by the window some days and I am humbled by the grace, mercy and undeserved kindness I have felt in this life. And I know Jehovah God doesn’t love me more than you. Have you asked for what you want, and have you listened to the response? Or were you just gonna coast and end up wherever? It doesn’t always happen overnight, but it does happen when we are in position, and when we are obedient. Y’all know I’m hard-headed, so I didn’t even get that part right the first few times. I’m listening!
